Diane Sanchez, the president and CEO of Telefonica USA, will be the next discussion leader at WorldCity’s CEO Club gathering on June 26.
The biggest challenge for her these days? It’s finding the right people to hire, not the answer most CEOs would give.
“You have to kiss a lot of frogs right now,” she said, “We’re interviewing left and right.”
The company is looking to hire 40-60 people as it expands to Los Angeles, Dallas and New York. The best candidate is truly bilingual and bicultural, one fully versed in technology and telecommunications, sophisticated enough to deal with top decision-makers at leading multinationals.
Before joining Telefonica in 2005, Sanchez served as president for Terremark, NAP of the Americas; as president and CEO of Global Crossing Latin America, where she was responsible for launching Global Crossing’s operation in the sub-regions of South America, Mexico, Central America and Caribbean; and as vice president for Sales and Operations for South America, Central America and Caribbean for what is now Alcatel-Lucent. In addition, Sanchez has had an extensive career with AT&T, where she held key leadership positions in managing the engineering and operations. She was also responsible for the start up operations in Mexico for AT&T with Alestra, where she served as Regional Director.
